Translations:Maria Theresia von Österreich im Gasthof „Goldener Hirsch“/1/en
Located on the important trade route to Frankfurt and Nuremberg, the inn "Goldener Hirsch" (Golden Deer) welcomed celebrity guests time and again. Probably the biggest event was the visit of Maria Theresia of Austria in 1745.[1] Shortly before, the daughter of Emperor Charles VI, Archduchess of Austria and Queen of Hungary and Bohemia, had pushed through the appointment of her husband Francis I Stephen as Holy Roman Emperor. She was now on the way from Vienna to the Emperor’s coronation in Frankfurt. She was escorted by her royal household and traveled in a convoy of approximately 130 carriages. On the 20-day journey, she and her entourage stopped over in Emskirchen. The innkeeper and postmaster Johann Samuel Meyer welcomed the future Empress as well as Margravine Wilhelmine of Bayreuth and Margrave Friedrich III in his inn "Goldener Hirsch". There was no big feast due to Lent, but Maria Theresia only met with the Margrave couple for half an hour of conversation in a side room of the inn before she and her entourage continued their journey under the curious gazes of hundreds of onlookers from Emskirchen and its surroundings.[2]
