David Eckart (VI 17)
David Johann Christian Gottfried Eckart, (VI 17), David Johann Christian Gottfried Eckart, (VI 17), (*October 30, 1785, in Emskirchen, Germany; †March 24, 1853, in Emskirchen, Germany), keeper of the inn “Schwarzer Adler” in Emskirchen, Germany, captain of the Landwehr (land defense), married Jeanette Friedericke Wilhelmine Wich on May 1, 1825, in Emskirchen, Germany
In January 1822, David Johann Christian Gottfried took over the “Schwarzer Adler” inn in Emskirchen.[1] In 1825, he married Jeanette Wich (*April 28, 1801, in Benk, Germany; †May 11, 1874, in Emskirchen, Germany), the daughter of Emskirchen’s priest Isaac Friedrich Wich.[2] Her father wed them and presented a touching marriage sermon which remains in the family archive to this day. As innkeeper, David established a special relationship with the students who came to the inn and affectionately referred to him as “student father”.[3] Young people soon realized that the “Schwarzer Adler” in Emskirchen had a very cozy atmosphere. Hence, David Eckart became well-known even outside of Emskirchen thanks to the exceptional references and praise of the students who traveled through. The couple had twelve children, all of whom received a good education. David Eckart died at the age of 67 years. His widow Jeanette outlived him by 21 years. His progeny is listed in the genealogical table Da. The descendants of his son Maximilian, who emigrated to Hawaii, are listed in the family branch sheet DaM.
