In January 1822, David Johann Christian Gottfried took over the inn "Schwarzer Adler" (Black Eagle) in Emskirchen.[1] In 1825, he married Jeanette Wich (*April 28, 1801, in Benk; †May 11, 1874, in Emskirchen), the daughter of Emskirchen’s priest Isaac Friedrich Wich.[2] Her father wed them and presented a touching marriage sermon which remains in the family archive to this day. As innkeeper, David established a special relationship with the students who came to the inn and affectionately referred to him as "student father".[3] Young people soon realized that the "Schwarzer Adler" in Emskirchen had a very cozy atmosphere. Hence, David Eckart became well-known even outside of Emskirchen thanks to the exceptional references and praise of the students who traveled through.
