Already the next day, the enraged companion’s second stood in front of Otto’s apartment. He communicated the terms of the duel: sharp sabers and "sine", i.e., without protective clothing. He designated a remote glade in the floodplains of the river Isar as a venue for the duel. Three days later, a small group of people appeared at the designated place: the coachmen waited at a short distance from the scene, the two duelists, their respective seconds and a surgeon, who was specialized in fencing wounds and supposed to treat the inevitable injuries, inspected the place and examined the duel sabers. It was not long before the surgeon was required. Otto had lost part of his nose. Fortunately, after an injection to kill the pain, the precious piece was found in the high grass and sewn back on immediately. Der Sekundant des erzürnten Begleiters stand bereits am nächsten Tag vor Ottos Wohnung. Er überlieferte die Bedingungen des Duells, scharfe Säbel und ''„sine“'', also ohne Schutzkleidung. Als Austragungsort wurde eine entlegene Lichtung in den Isarauen genannt. Drei Tage später fand sich eine kleine Schar von Menschen am genannten Ort ein: Die Kutscher warteten etwas abseits, die beiden Duellanten, ihre jeweiligen Sekundanten und ein ''„Paukarzt“'', der sich um die unvermeidlichen Verletzungen kümmern sollte, gingen den Platz ab und prüften die Duellsäbel. Es dauerte dann auch nicht lang, bis der Arzt zum Zuge kam. Otto hatte einen Teil seiner Nase eingebüßt. Zum Glück konnte das gute Stück im hohen Gras gefunden werden und unverzüglich, nach Verabreichung einer schmerzstillenden Spritze, wieder angenäht werden.
