Im Januar 1822 übernahm David Johann Christian Gottfried den Gasthof „Zum Schwarzen Adler“ in [[Emskirchen|Emskirchen]].<ref>Familienarchiv Eckart, Da I 106, Übergabe des Schwarzen Adlers von Maria Christina Lindner an Sohn David Eckart.</ref> 1825 heiratete er [[Jeanette Eckart (VI 17)|Jeanette Wich]] (*&nbsp;28.04.1801 in Benk; †&nbsp;11.05.1874 in Emskirchen), die Tochter des Emskirchener Pfarrers Isaac Friedrich Wich.<ref>Familienarchiv Eckart, Da I 102, Trauzeugnis des David Eckart und der Jeanette Wich, 01.05.1825.</ref> Ihr Vater vermählte die beiden und hielt eine bewegende Traurede, die sich noch heute im [[Archiv der Familie Eckart|Familienarchiv]] befindet. Als Gastwirt baute David zu den einkehrenden Studenten eine besondere Beziehung auf und wurde von ihnen liebevoll „Studentenvater“ genannt.<ref>Vgl. Gemeinsam hatte das Paar zwölf Kinder, die alle eine gute Ausbildung erhielten. David Eckart starb mit 67 Jahren. Seine Witwe Jeanette überlebte ihn um 21 Jahre. Seine Nachkommen sind auf der Ahnentafel Da verzeichnet. Die Nachkommen seines nach Hawaii ausgewanderten Sohnes [[Maximilian Eckart (Da VII 12)|Maximilian]] sind auf der Zweigtafel DaM verzeichnet.

As innkeeper, David established a special relationship with the students who came to the inn and affectionately referred to him as “student father”.[3] Young people soon realized that the “Schwarzer Adler” in Emskirchen had a very cozy atmosphere.
