Henriette Eckart wurde am 13. Mai 1902 in Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii als zwölftes Kind von [[Maximilian Eckart (Da VII 12)|Maximilian Eckart]] und [[Maria Louisa Campbell (Da VII 12)|Maria Louisa Campbell]] geboren. 1908, als Yette gerade einmal sechs Jahre alt war, starb ihre Mutter Maria Louisa. Sie wurde von ihrem Vater und ihren älteren Geschwistern aufgezogen, bis sie 1917 nach Abschluss der achten Klasse auf die Kamehameha in Honolulu geschickt wurde. 1919 machte sie in diesem Internat ihren Abschluss.
